Spanish Town, Jamaica - Celia Walters completed the sprint double at two-day Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) World Youth Trials, which ended here at GC Foster College on Sunday (14).

The meet was the Jamaican selection for the upcoming 6th IAAF World Youth Championships, Sϋdtirol, Italy (8 – 12 July).

Walters of Vere Technical, the former High school of two-time Olympic 200m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown and Merlene Ottey, won the 100-metre in 11.51 and 200-metre in 24.29.

On Sunday’s final day, she beat Seidath Palmer of Herbert Morrison (24.71) in the 200m, while her schoolmate Deandre Whitehorne (11.68) suffered to her in the 100m.

It was a different story in the boys’ Under-18 section as Waynee Hyman of Petersfield High School scored an upset 200-metre victory, running 21.80 seconds to beat Kemar Bailey-Cole of Old Habour High, the 100-metre champion.

Bailey-Cole, who took the opening day’s 100m in 10.52 ahead of Munro's Adam Cummings (10.55), was second in the 200m in 21.88.

Ristananna Tracey of Edwin Allen was also a double track winner, taking the 400m in 54.45 ahead of Vere’s Chantal Duncan (55.11) and the 400m hurdles in 59.19 to beat Wolmer's Danielle Dowie (59.34).

Javere Bell of Seaforth (47.91) took the Under-18 boys’ 400m event ahead of Wolmer’s A-Shawni Mitchell (48.25)

In the hurdles, as expected, Samantha Elliott of Immaculate, won the girls’ Under-18 100m hurdles in a wind-aided 13.76. Keena Davis of Edwin Allen High was second in 13.84.

Meanwhile, World Junior 200m silver medalist Nickel Ashmeade highlighted the two-day Junior Championships with an impressive 20.49 victory in the men's 200-metre.

Sunday’s 200-metre victory handed Ashmeade, the World Youth 100m silver medalist and 200m bronze medalist, the national sprint double crowns, having taken the 100m in a wind-aided 10.21 on Saturday.

Jura Levy also completed sprint double wins. Levy won the Under-20 women’s 200m in 23.65, adding to her 11.41, which took her in ahead of Gayon Evans (11.53) and Carrie Russell (11.58) on Saturday.
