“Seasons Greetings and Happy New Year!
“I'm not really big on New Year's Resolutions but I always want to make sure that I work as hard as I possibly can in whatever I do and make sure that giving God the glory is always my motivation.
“On Christmas, my entire family came to my house. It was a lot of fun. We had dinner, opened gifts, played some games and just enjoyed each other's company. It's been a tradition for a long time that on Christmas night all my cousins will go see a movie.
“Everyone has to make a dish for dinner and this year I'm doing desserts. I'm making Sock-it-to-me cake and cinnamon rolls.
“Earlier this month at the USATF annual meeting in Indianapolis, the US Olympic and World Championship team went to the (American football) Colts game to be introduced on the field for our accomplishments. We all had a lot of fun doing that.
"I also had the great privilege to be named ESPN Rise Female Track and Field Athlete of the Decade! It's always very humbling to be considered a great athlete, it makes me grateful to all of the women that have come before me and especially to my family and friends for all of their great support. I never would have imagined that ESPN Rise would bestow such a great honor on me, but am very thankful that they considered me. I hope that this sends a message to the next generation of female high school athletes that if they work hard and keep their priorities straight they can accomplish more than they ever can imagine.
“I'm back to bowling more often now but not actually not in a bowling league right now.
I just went recently with my training partners and some other fellow track runners (Dawn Harper, Joanna Hayes, Ginnie Powell, Kenneth Ferguson, Shawn Crawford, and Tyrone Edgar) which was fun because everyone is really competitive.
“I'm still enjoying fantasy basketball even though I'm in sixth place. I'm definitely trying to move up because I can't stand losing!
“Training is going well. We are taking our time this year since there is no championship. I am working with a new strength coach, Andre Woodert, which I am really excited about because I feel like I'm improving in this area.
“I'm enjoying working with my teammates. This is always the time of year every workout feels extremely difficult. I think what I dislike the most are the days we have to run over 2,500 meters worth of work because it always includes some 600's.
“I haven't made my schedule yet but I am most likely going to run more 400's this year. I still will also run some 100's because they always help me to work on certain aspects of my race that help my 200.
