The Commonwealth Games Shot Put champion has returned to Melbourne, Australia – the scene of her 2006 triumph – for a ten-day training camp. “I’ve been here almost a week now.... The training has been really hard work, but I’m loving it!  I am feeling great and my strength levels are returning which is exciting....”

“After the training camp I’m off to a competition in Shizouka, Japan on the 1st May and I am really looking forward to competing.” This will be Vili’s 6th competition in 2007. In each of her previous five outings she has improved her season’s best, opening with 18.32m in Christchurch (Feb 21), and with her current best this year of 19.47m.

She then returns home to New Zealand for the next phase of training. “All-in-all my throwing is coming along nicely at this point in time... but consistency is the key.... My Coach Kirsten is a really tough taskmaster and keeps me honest day-after-day.... it’s good for me though, I love the challenge!”

“I am hoping to go to meetings scoring for the IAAF World Athletics Tour in Bangkok, Thailand (Tuesday 19 June) and New Delhi (Saturday 23 June) for competitions but these have yet to be confirmed.”  These competitions will be the “reward” for all the hard work (in the gym, and on cold wet wintery evenings in Auckland) that will be completed in the next six-week training cycle.

“Well this will have to be a pretty short diary as it's back to training for me now...I have a tough session planned for this evening, aargh.”

“I will let you know in my next diary how my competition goes and also my confirmed competitions for June.”

Till next time....
