Entry Rules

  • Each Member is entitled to enter two, three or four competitors per event, as follow: - 1, 2, 3 or 4 athletes with "A" standard; - 1 athlete with the "B" and 1, 2 or 3 athletes with the "A" standard ; in both cases a maximum of three athletes will be allowed to compete.

  • Each Member is entitled to enter two competitors per event who have both reached the "B" standard for that event but only one will be permitted to compete

  • Members who have no male and/or no female qualified athletes whom they wish to enter in any event may enter one unqualified male athlete and/or one unqualified female athlete in one event except the 10,000m, 3000m Steeplechase and the Combined Events.

  • The acceptance of unqualified entries in the Field Events is at the discretion of the Technical Delegates.

  • If Japan, as host country, has no qualified athlete (or relay team) in any event of the Championships, it is entitled to enter 1 athlete (or one relay team) regardless of the entry standard.

  • In the Relays, Member Federations can enter p to 6 athletes; these must include all athletes (up to the 4th reserve) eventually entered in the respective individual events (100m and 400m).

  • In addition to the above, Member Federations are entitled to enter the Reigning World Champion regardless of whether he/she has achieved the corresponding entry standard.

Conditions

  1. Performances must be achieved during the qualification period of 1 January 2006 (1 September 2005 for the Marathons, Race Walking and Combined Events) to 13 August 2007 (midnight Monaco time).

  2. Performances must be achieved during competitions organised or authorised by the IAAF, its Area Associations or its National Member Federations. Thus, results achieved at university or school competitions must be certified by the National Federation of the country in which the competition was organised. (for Walking events, relays and marathon, see hereunder).

  3. Performances must be achieved during official competitions organised in conformity with IAAF Rules.

  4. Performances achieved in mixed events between male and female participants, held completely in the Stadium, will not be accepted.

  5. Wind-assisted performances will not be accepted

  6. Hand-timed performances in 100m, 200m, 400m, 110m/100m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles and 4x100m Relay will not be accepted.

  7. Indoor performances for all field events and for races of 400m and longer, will be accepted.

  8. Lower ages limit:

    • Junior athletes (any athlete aged 18 or 19 years on 31 December 2007) may compete in any event except the Marathon Races and the 50Km Race Walk Men.

    • Youth athletes (any athlete aged 16 or 17 years on 31 December 2007) may compete in any event except Throws, Decathlon, 10,000m, Marathon and Race Walking.

    • Athletes youger than 16 years on 31 December 2007 CANNOT be entered inany event.

  9. Walking Events

    • Entry Standard for the Walking Events may only be achieved at selected competitions.

    • For 2006, the list of athletes who have already achieved the Entry Standard at such competitions is available on the right section.

    • For 2007, the list of selected competitions is available on the right section.

  10. Marathons:

    • Entry Standard for the Marathon Events may only be achieved at selected Marathon Races.

    • The lists of such races, which are separate for 2006 and for 2007, are available on the right section.

    • In addition, the first 20 (men & women) of the Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London and New York City Marathons, will be considered as having achieved the "A" standard.

  11. Relays:

    • Entry Standard for the Relays may only be achieved at selected competitions.

    • For 2006, the list of National Teams that have already achieved the Entry Standard at such competitions is available on the right sectoin.
