Eticha, Kazakova take victory in Lausanne

22 October 2000 – Lausanne, Switzerland - Swiss-based Tefay Eticha of Ethiopia ran away from the field to claim victory by more than three minutes in Sunday's Lausanne Marathon.

Eticha, who runs in Geneva, won the race in 2 hours 16 minutes 24 seconds, ahead of Kenya's Jonah Koech, the brother of former steeplechase world record holder Peter Koech. Sergei Kaledin of Russia was third.

The women's race was won by Irina Kazakova of France, who was more than four minutes ahead of Iryna Sklyarenko of Ukraine and the Swiss runner Elisabeth Krieg.

Bruno Heuberger, who finished fourth in the men's race, was crowned Swiss champion, while Krieg took women's title for the fourth time. More than 1,700 people completed the race.
