It has been three-and-a-half years since the last 15-metre leap in the women's triple jump and there have been no signs so far this year that the barrier will be broken any time soon.

But that doesn't necessarily make it an unexciting event. In fact, this could be one of the closest.

Russia’s Yekaterina Koneva and Ukraine’s Olha Saladuha, the silver and bronze medallist from the 2013 World Championships, are evenly matched on paper.

They both have a best this year of 14.65m, and their 2013 season's bests were separated by just three centimetres. They have competed against each other just twice before and the record is split and one victory each.

Jamaica's Kimberly Williams has been creeping closer to major championships podiums over the past few years and finished just outside the medals in Moscow last year. Sopot could finally be her chance to earn some precious metal.

The others expected to be in the fight for a medal include Kseniya Dziatsuk of Belarus and Portugal's Patricia Mamone.
