Russia’s Evgeniy Likhanov moved into the lead after four events in the decathlon following his 2.09m clearance in the high jump
After four events, the European junior champion totals 3475 points, 19 more than Australia’s 2012 world junior fourth-place finisher Cedric Dubler, who also cleared 2.09m.
Another Russian, Roman Kondratyev, went over 2.03m and that height propelled him to third place in the standings with 3387.
World junior leader Jiri Sykora of the Czech Republic took the lead after the shot put but it was short lived. He only managed 1.94m and fell to fourth in the standings with 3345 points, 10 more than Belarusian Yuriy Yaremich.
Overall, eight men cleared two meters or higher.
