Report: men's decathlon pole vault – IAAF World Junior Championships, Oregon 2014

Cedric Dubler has regained the lead with two events remaining as the Australian reached a lifetime best of 4.80m in the pole vault, 20cm higher than his previous best.

Czech Republic’s Jiri Sykora, who overtook Dubler in the discus, only cleared 4.40m.

Fourth at the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships, Dubler has improved five personal bests in Eugene and now has 6771 points after eight events, 49 more than Sykora.

Russia’s Roman Kondratyev cleared a personal best of 4.60m and stayed in his third position with 6610 points, but is only six ahead of Germany’s Tim Nowak, who cleared a personal best of 4.70m.

France’s Mathias Ako cleared a personal best of 5.00m, the highest clearance of the day, and moved up to the fifth place with 6493 points, one ahead of Russia’s European junior champion Evgeniy Likhanov.

Norway’s world youth champion Karsten Warhom and US junior champion Harrison Williams – with the latter clearing 4.90m – rounded out the top eight with 6453 and 6404 respectively.
