Report: men's long jump – IAAF World Junior Championships, Oregon 2014

Wang Jianan led the first Asian men’s field event medal sweep in the history of the IAAF World Junior Championships and in the process he also became the second Chinese athlete to win the long jump world junior title with 8.08m.

The 2013 Asian champion was the only man to jump farther than eight metres in the final.

The 2011 world youth champion Lin Qing erupted in joy after his opening leap of 7.94m, before his countryman Wang moved to the lead with a wind-assisted 8.07m, just three centimetres shy of his personal best.

He then improved to 8.08m in the following round.

Lin took the silver medal with his opening leap while Japan’s Shotaro Shiroyama completed an Asian sweep with a wind-assisted 7.83m, also with his opening attempt.

This is only the third medal sweep by Asian athletes in the history of the World Junior Championships.
