This page provides readers with information concerning What this Plan is About and stories that illustrate the work that is currently being done in the implementation of the Athletics’ World Plan. These stories should be an inspiration to all of you who work at developing the sport of Athletics around the world, every day. If you want to share some of your own experiences in your respective Member Federations (development initiatives, new successful programmes, innovative event presentation ideas, etc), please contact us at worldplan@iaaf.org with a short synopsis of your proposed text, and a member of our editorial team will contact you. School and Youth – The driving force of the Athletics' World Plan
Dear friends of Athletics,
Back in 2003, at the IAAF Congress in Paris, we launched the Athletics’ World Plan, which aims at providing a guidance for all those who care for our sport, and want to see it continue to develop and grow.
The Plan outlines eight objectives that we believe cover all areas of our sport. Within these objectives, many actions have been identified as crucially important to achieve our main vision, which is to remain the number one individual sport in a changing world.
Since the launch, a lot has been achieved in many fields, and our work continues as we aim to cover all aspects of the Plan by the time we reach our Centenary in 2012.
This webpage has been created in order to share the stories that, every day, involve some aspect of the Athletics’ World Plan. Stories of challenges, stories of successes, as well as short examples of activities undertaken under the umbrella of the Plan. They are here to inspire, to motivate and to provide guidance to all of us who work so hard, every day, to strengthen our sport’s position in our societies.
To all of you who make this task a priority, I want to extend my thanks.
I look forward to updating all of you, Members of the Athletics Family, on the tremendous progress of the Plan’s implementation at our next Congress in Berlin.
Lamine Diack IAAF President
