Sebrle and Blonska wrap up 2007 World Combined Events Challenge titles

Monte-Carlo – World Decathlon champion Roman Sebrle (CZE) and World Heptathlon silver medallist Lyudmila Blonska (UKR) are the winners of the IAAF World Combined Events Challenge 2007 and each receive a prize of US$30,000. The standings were calculated after the completion of the final qualification competition, the Decastar meeting in Talence, France, last weekend (22 / 23 Sep).
Prize Money (US$) paid by the IAAF in both the men’s and women’s categories descended down to eighth place accordingly – 2nd 20,000, 3rd 15,000, 4th 10,000, 5th 8000, 6th 7000, 7th 6000, and 8th 5000.
The outcome of the Challenge was based on points accumulated at any three of this year’s thirteen qualifying competitions (NB. European Cup is split into three divisions and is held on the same weekend).
Overall, 17 men and 21 women competitors amassed scores in three Challenge events this year, as compared to 14 men and 25 women in 2006.
