Lagat set for 2007 indoor start in the UK
London, UK - 2004 World Indoor 3000m champion Bernard Lagat will begin his 2007 indoor season in Glasgow, over 1500m for the USA at the Norwich Union International in Glasgow on 27 January 2007.
The 2004 Olympic and 2001 World 1500m silver medallist will also compete at 3000m at the Norwich Union Grand Prix – IAAF indoor permit meeting - in Birmingham on 17 February.
After changing nationalities from Kenya to USA Lagat is free to compete for the USA at next summer's outdoor World Championships in Athletics, Osaka, Japan, and running under new colours he has all the extra motivation required for the coming track campaign.
"This is a major year for me with the World Championships in Japan in August…I feel I have something to prove," said Lagat.
"Before then, I'm really looking forward to the two meetings in Britain. I've run in most of the regular stops on the circuit, but this will be my first visit to Glasgow. I've heard the Kelvin Hall is a really atmospheric venue, so it will be a great place to get my 2007 season off to a good start. The NIA track in Birmingham is one I am more familiar with, having claimed a World medal there before (1500m silver in 2003)."
