Anju Bobby George and Amarjeet Singh stars of 32nd Indian National Games

Triple jumpers Anju Bobby George and Amarjeet Singh proved to be the best athletes of the athletics programme of the 32nd National Games which concluded at the GMC Balayogi Stadium here yesterday.

The newly laid synthetic track and runways of the inaugural Asian Grand Prix venue saw many noteworthy marks in the past five days though the outdoor season for the year ended long ago for most of the rest of the World.

Anju, the gold medallist in long jump at the Asian Games in Busan, improved her national mark in triple jump to a new distance of 13.67m. In a post event interview she expressed her desire to take part in the European circuit next year and concentrate only on long jump in future.

Punjab’s Amarjeet Singh bettered the meet mark in the men’s triple jump event with a performance of 16.38m.

Gujarat’s Chetna Solanki bettered the women’s pole vault national record by 10 cms.

Gulab Chand, represented the hosts Andhra Pradesh, garnered a distance triple.

Madhuri Gurnule of Maharashtra replicated her performance from the last games by retaining the double gold in women’s 5k and 10k events.

The race walking events of the national games were conducted at Pune on 2nd December.
