Sammy Korir not to run in New York
Nairobi - Kenyan Sammy Korir, who finished second to Paul Tergat in Berlin, smashing himself the world record with 2:04:56, will not complete in the York City Marathon on 2 November after all.
Isaiah Kiplagat, the chairman of Athletics Kenya, called Korir and told him the federation doesn’t want to see him running another marathon within only five weeks. It would have been Korir’s fourth marathon already this year.
Korir’s coach Dr. Gabriele Rosa who was previously misquoted as saying that Korir would be ready for New York is happy about this decision. Rosa said he would never recommend his athletes participating in two marathons within such a short period. “This is absolutely crazy. Sammy Korir need to recover fully from his extraordinary performance in Berlin, so that he will be ready for another fast time next year in London, Rotterdam or Boston.“
