    • Usain Bolt (JAM) - another fast win - Kingston

Kingston, Jamaica - Asafa Powell, the world's fastest man, left Saturday's Gibson Relays (24 Feb) held at the national stadium without a win, despite competing in two relay events.

The Maximising Velocity Power (MVP) quartet of Powell, World Championships silver medallists Michael Frater and Darrell Brown, along with Ainsley Waugh, did not finish in the men's 4x100m relay.

After a brilliant start by Powell, who gave Frater a 5m lead, Brown and anchor leg runner Waugh failed to make the final change, which allowed Usain Bolt, on anchor leg to race away with an easy victory for the Kingston-based IAAF High Performance Training Centre (HPTC).

The IAAF HPTC squad won the event in a meet record of 38.70 seconds, beating MVP's preliminary round record of 38.97.

"(I am) very, very disappointed,” said Powell, “because as you can see we were way ahead and it seems as if we were going for a record, but unfortunately the baton fell.”

"There wasn't really any challenge because we were way ahead and we had Ainsley on the anchor leg, so we would not have had anything to worry about if he had gotten the baton.”

However, Bolt was also disappointed because he wanted a challenge too.

"I am really sorry that they dropped the baton because I was hoping for a good test ... I knew I could do well in a 4x100m," said Bolt, who anchored the Jamaican Juniors to the 4x100m gold at the 2002 World Junior Championships.

In the 4x400m, despite a 46.5 anchor leg from Powell, MVP had to settle for second in 3:09.71 behind Bolt's HPTC (3:06.82).

However, MVP women’s squad led by Sherone Simpson and Foster-Hylton, won the 4x100m in 43.28 and the 4x400m in 3:30.78.

Meanwhile, Cuban Rianna Martinez ran a world outdoor season leading 51.93, which also broke the 400m meet record for the individual women’s one lap race. World Junior 400m Hurdles champion Kaliese Spencer was second in 52.33 seconds.

Jamaican Shericka Williams won the women's 100m in 11.36 seconds, while South African Commonwealth Games silver medallist Geraldine Pilley was second in 11.46. In the men's individual dash, Jamaican Nester Carter won in 10.20, with Antiguan Daniel Bailey, who won the first heat/section, was second overall in 10.27, while Andrew Hines of Barbados was third in 10.32.
