Monte-Carlo – With just under six months to go until the start of competition at the 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics on Saturday 23 August 2003 in Paris’ Stade De France, a record 233,578 tickets have already been sold.

With a full capacity (morning and evening sessions combined) of 500,000 seats available during the championships, and the local organizing committee setting itself a target figure of 400,000 ticket sales, the announcement of the record is another major boost for Athletics, coming so soon after the announcement that all tickets for next month’s World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, UK (14-16 March) had been sold out weeks ago.

“This is the first time in the history of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics that six months prior to the start of competition, such good ticket sales have been achieved,” confirmed IAAF President Lamine Diack.
