Rey moves into the Top-10 in the last IAAF World Rankings update of 2005

Monte Carlo - Due to the lack of recent competitions in the world of athletics, there are only a handful of changes in the latest release of the IAAF World Rankings.

Spain’s Julio Rey moved into the Top-10 of the Men’s Marathon - Road Running Event Ranking after finishing runner-up in the Fukuoka International Marathon in Japan. Rey ran 2:09:41 (1286 points) edging home favourite Atsushi Fujita over the last metres. Fujita finished with 2:09:48 (1264 points).

In the Event Ranking, Rey moved into 7th place from his previous position in 22nd, while Fujita entered the Ranking in 46th spot.

The race was won by Ukraine’s Dmytro Baranovskiy in 2:08:29 (1331 points). The 26-year-old was a newcomer into the Event Ranking this week, entering slightly behind Fujita in 48th place.

On the Women’s side, Helen Kimutai is the only notable improver this week. The Kenyan won the Milan City Marathon in 2:28:48 (1233 points) to post the strongest female performance of the past fortnight.

The win allowed Kimutai to move up 11 places to 14th in the Women’s Marathon -Road Running Event Ranking.

The next edition of the IAAF World Rankings will be published on 3 January, 2006.
