Indonesia enjoys the experience of Kids Athletics

Last month, 57 school teachers representing 13 of Indonesia’s 33 provinces, along with 80 students from 2 elementary students (ages 7 to 12 years) in the capital Jakarta enthusiastically enjoyed a fun IAAF / Nestlé Kids’ Athletics event in Stadium Madya, Senayan (11 October).

Created in 2005, and with the support of its partner “Nestlé Healthy Kids” since January 2012, IAAF / Nestlé Kids Athletics is one of the biggest grassroots development programmes in the world of sports.

Among those attending the event which introduced children to Athletics in fun activities at a basic level were Minister of Youth & Sports Affair Roy Suryo Notodiprojo, Market Head of Nestlé Indonesia Arshad Chaudhry, Chairman of Indonesian Athletics Association Bob Hassan, General Secretary of Indonesian Athletics Association Tigor Tanjung and Director of the IAAF Regional Development Centre (RDC) in Jakarta Ria Lumintuarso.

The teachers were trained by 2 IAAF Kids’ Athletics lecturers, Dr. Margono, M. Pd. from the Sport Science Faculty Yogyakarta Public University, Yogyakarta, and Nanang Himawan Kusuma, B.Pd., MSc. from the Medical Faculty of Health Science Jendral Soedirman University, Purwokerto, Central Java.

Teachers and students alike enjoyed their experience of Nestlé Kids’ Athletics.

“It helps kids embrace athletics by demonstrating the games. They seemed to enjoy it a lot. I will bring and introduce it to my students back in Semarang for sure,” commented Mr. Suwarno, a sports teacher at Pekunden Elementary School, Semarang, Central Java.

“I was taught some athletics events, both track and field, but in a different way to what I’m used to. It was fun,” enthused Mifathul Jannah a school girl from South Jakarta.
