Primo Nebiolo is awarded 'Honoris Causa' law degree by University of Kosice

The ancient university of "Sassoviensis", founded in 1657 by the Bishop of Eger, Benedikt Kiskdy - now known as the Pavla Jozefa Safarika University - today awarded an honorary law degree to IAAF President Primo Nebiolo.

During the award ceremony, which took place in the University's Great Hall before the Academic Senate, the Rector, Professor Dusan Padhrasky recalled Dr Nebiolo's contribution to the promotion of sport, in particular among university students.

In a speech following the award, Dr Nebiolo spoke of the centuries' old history of the university and its tradition of combining culture and sport, a tradition which would be particularly apparent during the forthcoming University Winter Games, which will be held in the Slovak Republic in 1999.

The honour afforded to Dr Nebiolo is particularly prestigious, as the Sassoviensis University rarely awards honorary degrees. Previous recipients have included the celebrated Slovak philosopher Milan Rufus and scientists Mathias Sprinzl of Germany and Habil C. Kosikowsky of Poland.
