The previous best time run in Mexican territory, was the one of Andres Espinosa, who ran for 2:10:57, in 2001 in the Lala Marathon in Torreón.
Dulce Maria Rodriguez, the Mexican Olympic runner, dominated the women's division from start to finish to with a time of 2:33:28.
