Mexico witnesses its fastest ever marathon run in Monterrey

Hillary Kimaiyo wins the Marathon Powerade Monterrey 2008 (organisers)

Hillary Kimaiyo, from Kenya, won the Marathon Powerade Monterrey 2008 on December 14 with a time of 2:09:54, the fastest time ever registered in a certified marathon in Mexico in the men's division.

The previous best time run in Mexican territory, was the one of Andres Espinosa, who ran for 2:10:57, in 2001 in the Lala Marathon in Torreón.

Dulce Maria Rodriguez, the Mexican Olympic runner, dominated the women's division from start to finish to with a time of 2:33:28.

The runner's performances were affected by a heat wave which caused the temperature to rise above 20 degrees C in the final part of the elite competition.
