High Jump world leader Lowe – ‘I don’t want to be a one-hit wonder’ - IAAF Diamond League
Oslo, Norway - Blanka Vlasic knows she has a job on her hands when she competes in her second IAAF Diamond League meeting of the year here in the Bislett Stadium tomorrow – in Chaunte Lowe (nee Howard) not only will she be facing a high jumper in the form of her life, but a high jumper inspired by the word of God.
Even for a World indoor and outdoor champion with the second highest jump in history to her name, that is a tall order.
Lowe’s high point came at the Cottbus meeting on Sunday when, despite having her preparations undermined by heavy rain, she first equalled and then bettered Louise Ritter’s 22-year-old US high jump record of 2.03m, bouncing triumphantly out of the pit after clearing 2.04 and performing a whirling dance of joy before racing over to her watching husband, triple jumper Mario Lowe, and their two-year-old daughter Jasmine to share her elation.
