His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco yesterday afternoon (15) named IAAF Council Member Nawal El Moutawakel, as Morocco’s Minister for Youth and Sports.

El Moutawakel has been an IAAF Council Member since 1995 and an IOC Member since 1998.

The 1984 Olympic 400m Hurdles champion has made the cause of health and fitness especially the participation of women the heart of her present career in sports administration and politics.

As the organiser of the ‘Courir pour le Plaisir’, an annual 10km fun run for women in Casablanca, she has been a strong advocate for women in sport, with this year’s ninth edition on 20 May attracting nearly 30,000 participants.
