100 days to go to 2009 World Youth Champs

Bressanone, Italy - A special press conference to mark the Countdown “100 Days to go” to the 2009 World Youth Championships in Bressanone, S?dtirol, was held on 30 March in Bolzano, Italy.

The 6th IAAF World Youth Championships in Südtirol, Italy from 8-12 July, will be the biggest sport event of the year for the entire Italian Südtirol region.

The Local Organising Committee is expecting 2200 accreditations, of which 1500 athletes from 150 countries.  In total there will be room for 5000 people attending the championships. 

The press conference was the opportunity for the organisers to take stock of all organisational aspects with 100 days to go to the competition.
 
It is the first time that the World Youth Championships will be held in a town of this small size. The World Youth Championships will be the most important sports event that has ever taken place in South Tyrol.

“The entire staff is driven by motivation and we want to be a formidable host of this event,” said LOC President Rudi Rienzner. Four-hundred volunteers have registered to participate in this event. “I am convinced that there will be more volunteering. They will turn the competition into a celebration,” continued Rienzner. 

Bressanone, a small but fascinating town in the Italian region of Alto Adige, has always shown a keen passion for athletics staging fabulous editions of the Italian Championships (2005) and Italian Junior and Under 23 Championships (2007) in the recent years.

Olympic 1500 metres finalist Christian Obrist hails from Bressanone and began his athletics career in this town. Südtyrol is the perfect example of how athletics stars can emerge from the smallest villages. One prominent name is Alex Schwazer, the 50 km Race Walking Olympic champion in Beijing 2008, who hails from Calice, a small village where just 31 inhabitants live. 

The small athletics stadium is being renovated for the World Youth Championships. The stadium is located in a area surrounded by green covered mountains. For this reason a new green track will be laid for this occasion. “The track will get its green coating after Easter. We picked the colour green to match the surrounding environment”, said Technical Director Bruno Cappello.

The interest of the Northern Italian town for the IAAF World Youth Championships is growing day by day. The World Youth Championships is a dream for Bressanone which will offer a springboard for a new generation of athletes who will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Usain Bolt, Yelena Isinbayeva and Veronica Campbell, just three senior athletics stars who won the IAAF World Youth Championships title.

J -100 pour les Championnats du Monde Cadets 2009

Bressanone, Italie – Une conférence de presse spéciale a été organisée pour marquer les 100 jours avant l'ouverture des Championnats du Monde Cadets 2009, à Bressanone, Tyrol du Sud, le 30 mars dans la ville italienne de Bolzano.

Les 6èmes Championnats du Monde Cadets de l'IAAF, Tyrol du Sud, Italie, 8-12 juillet, seront la manifestation sportive la plus importante de l'année pour la région entière.

Le Comité organisateur local (COL) prévoit de distribuer 2200 accréditations, dont 1500 pour les athlètes issus de 150 pays. Au total ce sont plus de 5000 personnes qui seront présentes pour ces championnats. 
La conférence de presse a été l'opportunité pour les organisateurs de faire le point sur tous les aspects logistiques, 100 jours avant la cérémonie d'ouverture.
 
C'est la première fois que les Championnats du Monde Cadets se déroulent dans une ville aussi petite; de plus il s'agira de la manifestation sportive la plus importante jamais organisée dans le Tyrol du Sud.

Rudi Rienzner, le président du COL, a déclaré: "Notre équipe toute entière est ultra-motivée et nous sommes déterminés à ce que ces championnats soient une totale réussite. Nous avons déjà recruté 400 volontaires pour nous assister et je suis certain que bien d'autres vont encore nous rejoindre pour faire de cette compétition une véritable fête." 

Bressanone est une ville, petite mais fascinante, qui se situe dans la région italienne du Haut-Adige, qui a toujours nourri une passion pour l'athlétisme. Elle a notamment accueilli des éditions réussies des Championnats d’Italie seniors en 2005 ainsi que les championnats nationaux juniors et espoirs en 2007.

Christian Obrist, finaliste olympique du 1500m, est originaire de Bressanone, où il a découvert l'athlétisme. Le Tyrol du Sud illustre à la perfection la manière dont des stars de l'athlétisme peuvent émerger des communautés les plus petites. On peut ainsi citer, entre autres, Alex Schwazer, champion olympique du 50km marche à Beijing en 2008, natif de Calice, un village qui ne compte que 31 habitants. 

Le petit stade d'athlétisme de la ville est en passe d'être rénové en vue des championnats. Le stade est entouré de montagnes verdoyantes, et c'est pour cela que la piste synthétique sera de couleur verte, comme le confirma Bruno Cappello, le directeur technique de la compétition, ajoutant que cette piste serait posée après Pâques.

Il existe un grand sentiment d'anticipation pour les Championnats du Monde Cadets de l'IAAF dans la ville, bien consciente que l'épreuve représente un tremplin pour une nouvelle génération d'athlètes qui rêve de reproduire les exploits de champions tels qu'Usain Bolt, Yelena Isinbayeva ou encore Veronica Campbell, trois stars mondiales qui ont remporté un titre mondial cadets pour leurs débuts sur la scène internationale.
