London Marathon Field strongest ever

9 December 1999 - Three new big names have been added to the women's field in the 2000 London Marathon, giving the strongest field ever brought together in the history of the event.

World marathon best performer Tegla Loroupe of Kenya and her training partner Joyce Chechumba (who holds the fastest time for a women only race, set in London this year, are joined by the 1998 London winner Catherina McKiernan (IRL), the European champion Manuela Machado (POR) and Adriana Fernandez (MEX), who was the winner of this year's New York Marathon. 1996 London champion Liz McColgan will also be there for her home crowd to cheer on.

Tegla Loroupe will run another marathon before London, she is the leading female athlete competing in the IAAF Rome Millennium Marathon on 1 January 2000, the first major sporting event of the new millennium.
