Scott Martin reached a personal best 20.42 in the Shot Put to highlight the Tasmania's Forest Industries Graeme Briggs Memorial Athletics Classic in Hobart, Australia (9 February).

The 24-year-old Australian improved on his previous best of 20.38 from last year's World Athletics Final where he finished fifth. Also last season, Martin was the Commonwealth Games gold medallist in the Discus Throw and took bronze in the Shot Put in Canberra. Earlier in the evening, Martin suffered a rare domestic defeat in the Discus Throw, where he was upset by Benn Harradine, 62.21m to 61.26m.

Donna MacFarlane, the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist in the 3000m Steeplechase who lives in Hobart, ran the third fastest time of her career en route to a commanding solo 9:34.71 victory in her specialty.

Elswhere on the track, Tamsyn Lewis avenged a pair of recent losses to rapidly-improving Lisa Corrigan to win the 800m in 2:02.90, .10 ahead of Corrigan. Collis Birminghan knocked four seconds from his personal best to win the men's 5000m in 13:34.22, well ahead of Steeplechase specialist Martin Dent, whose 13:46.87 was also a career best. The pair were paced through 3000m by Paul Hoffman, who earlier won the 1500m in a meet record 3:41.74.
