2nd AIMS Marathon Symposium in Marathon Town, Greece

As already announced, AIMS, IAAF, Marathon Town and SEGAS (the Greek National Athletics Federation) will organise the “2nd AIMS Marathon Symposium”, on Saturday, 8 November 2008 at the venue of the historic start of the Athens Classic Marathon, in Marathon-Athens, Greece, on the eve of this year's race.

The theme of this year’s Symposium is “Adding Value to your Marathon” and the Organizing Committee has secured prominent speakers from around the world in order to address the participating Marathon Organizers and Race Directors, AIMS and IAAF officers and representatives, renowned former or still-active marathon runners, marathon cities’ representatives and media representatives.

An updated Detailed Sessions Schedule of the Symposium is attached (see related content section to the right of this message for download in pdf) and important figures of the marathon, sport and business world are included in the set of the main speakers.  Jeff Galloway, Author-Coach, Carlo Capalbo, Race Director of Prague Marathon, Patrick Maitrot, Commercial Director Partnerships, Eurosport, Bob Ramsak, International Journalist and Nick Rusling, Managing Director of IMG Mass Participation Sport have already confirmed their presence as main speakers.

The aim of this annual international event is to encourage close co-operation and exchange of views on issues of mutual interest which will assist organisers in their constant efforts to improve their races.  The organisers of the Symposium offer hospitality to attendees within the above categories (one person per Marathon race) which would include lodging (full board accommodation and local transportation), in Marathon Town.  More than 20 Marathons have been registered so far for this year’s Symposium which is expected to gather more than 40 Marathon organizers.

The organisers have already sent out all information necessary concerning the registration procedure which will be able to take place through the Athens Classic Marathon web site www.athensclassicmarathon.gr. 

2ème Symposium AIMS du Marathon dans la ville grecque de Marathon

Comme annoncé précédemment, l’AIMS, l’IAAF, la ville de Marathon et SEGAS (la fédération d’athlétisme nationale de Grèce) tiendront le “2ème Symposium AIMS du Marathon”, samedi 8 novembre 2008. Ce Symposium se tiendra dans la ville de Marathon, la veille du départ du “Marathon classique d’Athènes’’.

Le thème du Symposium cette année est “Comment ajouter de la valeur à votre Marathon” et le comité organisateur s’est assuré la présence d’intervenants internationaux de tout premier ordre pour adresser les délégués, composés d’organisateurs et directeurs de marathons, de représentants de l’AIMS et de l’IAAF, de marathoniens reconnus, tant en activité que retraités, de représentants de villes organisatrices de marathons et enfin de journalistes.

Parmi les personnalités des univers du marathon, du sport et des affaires qui interviendront à l’occasion de ce symposium figurent notamment Jeff Galloway, auteur et entraîneur, Carlo Capalbo, directeur du Marathon de Prague, Patrick Maitrot, Eurosport, directeur commercial des partenariats, Bob Ramsak, journaliste international et Nick Rusling, IMG, directeur du département Sports pour tous.

L’objectif de cet événement international est d’encourager une collaboration rapprochée entre toutes les parties impliquées dans la discipline, ainsi que des échanges de points de vue sur des questions d’intérêt général afin de soutenir les organisateurs dans leurs efforts constants d’amélioration de leurs compétitions. Les organisateurs du Symposium offrent l’hospitalité aux représentants des catégories nommées ci-dessus (une personne par course de marathon). Cette offre comprend la pension complète dans la ville de Marathon ainsi que les déplacements sur place. Les dirigeants de plus de vingt marathons sont déjà inscrits pour participer au Symposium cette année, et on prévoit que le nombre total de compétitions représentées dépassera les quarante.
