Slovakian Hammer record holder Libor Charfreitag has started the outdoor season as never before. At Arlington Invitational (Hammer Throw was held Friday 1 April in Dallas, USA, at SMU Stadium) he achieved an 80.85m result.

The performance was his third best mark ever and the world leading result of 2005 in what of course is still a very young outdoor season.

This result was confirmation of the excellent indoor shape he had shown in the Weight Throw discipline this winter. In March he improved the European best mark to 25.68m.

Until last Friday, Charfreitag’s best opening to a Hammer season had been in 2003 when at the same Arlington meet he achieved 79.27m.

”Of course I’m satisfied. But there are still things to improve, mainly technically. Also there were no opponents who could push me to better results,” commented Charfreitag who after taking 7th place in Athens last summer is hopeful of further improvement in Helsinki this summer. His first international outing is scheduled at Japan Grand Prix in Osaka on 7 May.

Libor Charfreitag's five best career results -
