Olympic champion and world record-holder Aries Merritt will go head-to-head with Britain’s three-time World Championships finalist William Sharman at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix, part of the 2014 IAAF Diamond League, on 11-12 July.

The IAAF Diamond League will come to Glasgow for the first time in its history and will follow last year’s Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games, which was held at the Olympic Stadium in London.

On that occasion, Sharman finished behind Merritt’s countryman and eventual world champion David Oliver in the 110m hurdles, clocking a personal best of 13.26, while Merritt was sadly disqualified.

With the world’s best returning to the UK, Merritt will be looking to reassert his dominance on the biggest stage with Sharman, who finished fifth in Moscow last summer and one place in front of his US counterpart, keen to build on his impressive early season form.

Joining the hurdlers at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix are a plethora of British big names, including double Olympic and world champion Mo Farah, world 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu, Olympic long jump champion Greg Rutherford, world indoor 60m champion Richard Kilty, and Jamaica’s Yohan Blake, the second-fastest man ever over 100m and 200m and one of the stars of last weekend’s IAAF World Relays.
