ASICS has partnered with the IAAF World Championships London 2017 to launch #IMoveLondon, a campaign that will run at the same time as the city hosts the IAAF World Championships, encouraging commuters to switch their train tickets for trainers.

Research has shown that travel delays and commutes to work can make people feel twice as tired as they would be if they travelled by foot. The survey also revealed that those who walk to work are three times less stressed than those who take the tube or train.

As many as 92% of those who do physical activity believe it improves their mood, but many people struggle to fit it in, with almost three-quarters of British people (73%) saying the reason they don’t move more is because they simply don’t have the time.

But with many people spending on average one hour a day commuting, the journey to work is the optimum time to move more.

“With the IAAF World Championships coming to London from 4-13 August, it’s more important than ever to get the host city moving more,” said IAAF President Sebastian Coe. “We’re extremely excited to work with ASICS on a campaign that will encourage Londoners to positively disrupt their everyday with exercise – even long after the championships have finished.”

ASICS has created a video series with the SMSB (Sound Mind Sound Body) which reveals amazing locations where Londoners can get out and get active. The SMSB, a global community of creative and sports enthusiasts, are leading workshops at a series of pop-up ‘Run The Tube’ events hosted by ASICS around the capital.

Run The Tube is a multisensory movement experience, which creates an 85-metre tunnel made from hoops of light that respond to the music being played. Designed by US artists Rob Jensen and Warren Trezevan, Run The Tube will take up residence at three popular urban work-out spots: the Leake Street Tunnel, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Clapham Common.

“We’re all inspired by the amazing athletes taking part in the IAAF World Championships in London this summer,” said Paul Miles, Senior General Manager, Global Marketing Division ASICS Corporation. “With #IMoveLondon we want to spread that inspiration by helping Londoners to swap the time they’d normally be commuting to enjoy the benefits of exercise by getting active in their exceptional city.”
