Baba finishes the season on a high note

The Czech Republic's Bronze medal winner from Budapest and youngest among the world elite of high jumpers Jaroslav Baba finished his season in excellent shape on 13 March.

At the indoor high jump meeting in Valaske Mezirici (Moravia) he was able to jump 2.30m and even tried for new personal best of 2.35m.

The result is noteworthy also because the runup in the small sports hall allows only 5 strides length.

"I was also surprised. I was well rested after the Worlds, there was no pressure on me, nobody expected anything. So I just jumped. After first miss at 2.30 which was very close I said to myself that I must do it. Two tries at 2.35 could not be very hopeful because after 5 strides I have been pushing the bar with my head. But it was nice ending of the season," said Baba.

His meeting record from last year 2.24 was bettered twice as he first jumped 2.25 and then also 2.30m.

Baba's girlfriend and also very talented long jumper Denisa Scerbova (this winter 6.61 and 11th in Budapest) bettered her High Jump PB with 1.75m.

Men - 1. Jaroslav Baba 2.30 ( 2.10/1, 2.15/1, 2.22/2, 2.25/2, 2.30/3, 2.35/xxp), 2. Dalibor Hon 2.15, 3. Jan Janku 2.10.

Women: 1. Katerina Korcova 1.84, 2. Romana Dubnova 1.84, 3. Bernadett Bodi, HUN 1.78.

Junior women: 1. Denisa Scerbova (86) 175 PB
