World Championships 200m silver medallist Usain Bolt sped to a world leading 100m time at Saturday's Lucozade Sport/G.C. Foster Classics in Spanish Town, about 50km outside the capital Kingston.

Bolt's early season form took him to an impressive 10.03 seconds bettering the 10.04 compatriot Asafa Powell did to win the Melbourne Grand Prix last month. The 21-year-old sprinter, who won the World Junior and World Youth 200m titles in 2002 and 2003 respectively, was forced to put behind him two false starts before strolled to a comfortable win ahead of G.C. Foster College's Gavin Terrelonge (10.49) in heat one of the time-final event.

Barbadian Andrew Hinds, who won heat two, was second overall in the time-final event in 10.35.

The national 200m record holder at 19.75 seconds, Bolt was very pleased with his early-season performance and predicts better things to come.

"I think that was pretty good, because I equalled my personal best," he said, while pointing to last year's run in Réthimno, Greece.

He also promised: "I will be looking to better that time this season."

Meanwhile, in the women's event, World Youth bronze medallist Schillonie Calvert won in 11.27 seconds to beat two-time World Junior 200m silver medallist Anneisha McLaughlin (11.43) and Nyoka Cole (11.58).
