The organisers of Meeting Areva, Paris, the fourth fixture of this season’s ÅF Golden League, which takes place at the Stade de France have announced their first major signing, and it is a name as big as they come in the world of track and field at the moment.

Laurent Boquillet, the new meeting director had declared two months ago that signing triple Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt for the meeting in Paris Saint-Denis was their priority. Yesterday evening that goal was achieved and the 22-year-old Jamaican who was crowned World Athlete of the Year in Monaco last November will run at Meeting Areva on 17 July 2009.

Bolt’s commitment to race in Paris was jointly confirmed by his coach, Glen Mills and his athlete representative Ricky Simms.

As to which event will he run, the 100m or 200m - both are on the timetable for the meeting - Glen Mills will decide one month before the meeting takes place as to which race best fits his pupil's preparation for this summer’s World Championships in Berlin.

Other members of Jamaica’s men’s and women’s sprint squads will run at the Paris meeting too with names to be confirmed later.
