Bolt to run 200m in Thessaloniki – World Athletics Final

MonteCarloWorld and Olympic 100m and 200m champion Usain Bolt, has confirmed that he will run the 200m at the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final in Thessaloniki, Greece (12-13 September 2009).

The World record holder has so far run 200m this season at three meetings. The National Championships in Kingston (28 June: 20.75, -3.6m/s wind and 20.25, -2.4m/s), in Lausanne at the Super Grand Prix (7 July: 19.59, -0.9), and at the World Championships in Berlin (18 Aug:  20.41, 0.0 and 20.70, -0.2; 19 Aug: 20.08, 0.0; 20 Aug: 19.19, 0.3) which culminated in his dramatic improvement of the World record* from 19.30 to 19.19 sec.

Bolt last competed in the World Athletics Final in 2006 when he came third in 20.10sec (-0.1m/s wind) in Stuttgart, Germany (10 September 2006). 

Note. Bolt is currently in third position in the 100m World Athletics Tour Standings but is not in one of the seven automatic qualification spots for the 200m but as per the qualifying regulations the 8th place is at the discretion of the IAAF.
