Brazil’s Vanderlei de Lima and Kenya’s Emily Kimuria ran to respectable times when winning the men’s and women’s divisions respectively of today’s Hamburg Marathon in Germany.

21,000 runners took to the streets of the German city in which Brazil's 34 year-old Pan American Games champion Vanderlei Lima (PB 2:08:31- 1998) won in 2:09:39 from Kenya’s Thomas Chemitei (2:11:27) and Fred Kiprop (2:11:45).

In a very closely fought women’s race Emily Kimuria, who was second in last year's Berlin marathon (PB 2:28:18), took the win in 2:28:57, just a second in front of compatriot Alice Chelengat. Russia’s Larisa Malikova was third in 2:32:17.
