Brazil is praying  two of its athletes Cleiton Sabino and Franciela Krasucki can clinch gold medals in tonight's second day finals at the IAAF/Maroc Telecom World Youth Championships.

The pair were in fantastic form on the opening day, Sabino after a huge long jump effort of 7.43metres having continuously led the gruelling octathlon competition.

The Sao Paulo teenager holding an overnight lead of 105 points with a tally of 3389 points, started Thursday's schedule again with a confident performance.

Sabino won his 110 metres hurdles  heat in 14.04sec, his overall 4358 score drawing him even further ahead of Matthias Prey and Yordani Garcia, the German and Cuban tallying 4208 and 4177pts.

He then between that performance and competing in the high jump, took time away from the multi-event to qualify for Friday's individual long jump final with a clearance of 7.20m.

However he lost a lot of ground in the high jump and had his lead lowered to only 25-points, his best clearance of 1.77m no way  matching the massive leaps of Garcia and Rok Derzanic.

Garcia's height of 1.95m moved him into third place, while Slovenia's Derzanic's best of the day 2.01m, spiralled him from fourth into bronze medal position.

Krasucki who set Brazilian championship records in both the 100 metres and 200m at their trials in June, was in speedy form in her short sprint qualifying races.

The South American initially setting the standard in the first round, scorched to fastest 100m time in the world this year of 11.39seconds.

Bianca Knight bettered that by one-hundredth-of-a-second in her heat, the American also running a very controlled race.

The semi-finals saw the pair again dominant, Knight running 2/100sec quicker with a clocking of 11.44sec. However the stage looks set for a supercharged final.
