The series of eight individual meetings in five different countries which make up the 2015/2016 IAAF Cross Country Permit series will kick off with the Cross de Atapuerca, near the Spanish city of Burgos, on Sunday 15 November.

The Atapuerca race, which has often been the curtain raiser for the series in recent years, regularly features the world’s top cross-country stars. The men’s and women’s winners over the past six years have all won individual medals at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships.

During the course of the three months after Atapuerca, many of the world’s finest distance runners will take part in the series before its conclusion at the Almond Blossom Cross Country in the Portuguese city of Albufeira.

“This aspect of the sport has great tradition and tremendous potential, not only as a unique discipline, but as a bed rock of endurance running,” said IAAF President Seb Coe. The series will again aim to demonstrate and highlight the discipline’s international appeal and central place in athletics.

The series includes some of the most venerable athletics events in the world, including the Cinque Mulini in San Vittore Olana, Italy, which this winter will be held for the 84th time. The Cross Juan Muguerza in Elgoibar and the Campaccio International Cross Country in San Giorgio su Legnano have both been running for more than 50 years.

As in previous years, the Cross Country Permit section of the IAAF website will provide in-depth coverage of all the action, including previews, reports and results.
