Czechs send 12 athletes to indoor championship in Japan

PRAGUE, Febr 22 (CTK)The Czech Athletic Union (CAS) nominated 12 athletes including world champions Tomas Dvorak (decathlon) and Sarka Kasparkova (triple jump) for the World Indoor Championship in Maebashi, Japan on March 5-7, the CAS secretary general Frantisek Fojt said today. Eleven of the athletes fulfilled the limits of the CAS and Vydra (800 m) was added to the list because his best result this year is better then the IAAF limit and because he won the bronze medal at the European championship in Budapest last year, Fojt said.

The Czech athletes, with the exception of Oravec and Fuchsova, who are now in USA and Australia respectively, will leave for Japan on Wednesday, February 24. The best result of the Czech National Indoor Championship, which took place during the weekend in Prague, was 1.97m by Hlavonova in the women's high jump. It is a new national indoor record.

Nominated were: Erika Suchovska - 200 metres; Helena Fuchsova - 400 or 800 metres; Ludmila Formanova - 800 metres; Andrea Suldesova - 3000 or 1500 metres; Zuzana Hlavonova - high jump; Pavla Hamackova - pole vault; Sarka Kasparkova - triple jump; Roman Oravec - 800 metres; Tomas Janku - high jump; Roman Sebrle - heptathlon; Tomas Dvorak - heptathlon; Lukas Vydra - 800 metres
