Decathlon - Event Nine - Javelin Throw

Some superb throwing from Pelle Rietveld, with a notable third effort of 60.95 metres gave the Dutchman 752 points from this event, but failed to move him from his fourth place position, with a nine event total of 7070 points.

After this penultimate event of the Decathlon, Andrei Krauchanka retained his hold on the leadership with his best result of 52.84 metres (631 pts) taking his total to 7371, just 37 points clear of Sysoyev in second place and 143 points ahead of Norman Muller in third place at this stage of the competition.

Sysoyev pulled out the stops with his final throw, launching his spear out to 57.44 metres, the second best performance of all of the athletes still in contention to earn 699 points and take his running total to 7334 points. Muller’s 53.77 best throw was worth 645 points, giving him 7228 for nine events.
