Decathlon - Final Event - 1500m

Andrei Krauchanka clinched the gold medal and a new Championship record in the Decathlon with a strong run in the final event of the competition, the 1500 metres.

Although the Belarusian only crossed the line in fourth position, the 755 points from his time of 4:28.46 were enough to increase his lead over second-placed  Aleksey Sysoyev, who finished ninth on the track and earned 713 points from his time of 4:34.84 to take his final total to 8047 points, 79 points behind Krauchanka and a new National Junior record for Russia. Norman Muller took the bronze medal with 7942 points and set a National Junior Record for Germany.

Andres Silva had obviously hoped to improve his placing with this last event, which is one of his strongest and he immediately took the lead and held it from start to finish, but despite picking up 82 points from his 4:18.68 clocking, he was unable to advance beyond fifth position, ending the second day with a total of 7542 points a South American Area Record. Pelle Rietveld was fourth overall with 7822 points, another National Junior Records.

Japan's Daisuke Ikeda also set a new National Junior Record with his total of 7146.
