After a miserable 2009 season on and off the track Walter Dix has shown this summer that his career is about to take off again after those two unwanted setbacks.

The Beijing Olympics 100m and 200m bronze medallist has made a blistering start to his current campaign with high profile victories over both these distances at home and abroad, with Gateshead and Saturday's Aviva Grand Prix, the eighth stop on the Samsung Diamond League series, his next stop.

Indeed his confidence is sky high and the American honestly believes he has the ability to smash Michael Johnson's 14-year-old USA record of 19.32 which won the track and field superstar the Olympic title in Atlanta.

Dix is also adamant that when he gets the opportunity to line up in the same race alongside Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay he can attack the former's World record of 19.19 which the Jamaican achieved at last summer's World Championships.

"19.32 that's definitely in sight," Dix exclusively told the Samsung Diamond League website. "19.19? If I get that, it's with God's blessing.”

"19.32, that's more reachable right now. It's an off season and for me to run that, I have to have Bolt on the outside and Tyson on the inside."
