Foundation Council to elect Winners tomorrow

20 November, 1998 MONTE CARLO - Monaco - Following a survey of athletics experts around the world, two lists of 10 nominees for the 1998 Athlete of the Year have been finalised. They are, in alphabetical order:

Reinforcing the global strength of the sport, no fewer than 10 nationalities are represented among these female champions of 1998 and eight nationalities among the men.

The winners of the prestigious Athlete of the Year awards will be decided tomorrow at the meeting of the Council of the International Athletic Foundation, led by HSH Prince Albert of Monaco and IAAF President Primo Nebiolo.

A Press Conference to announce the results will be held on Sunday at 13:00h at the Salon d’Honneur of the Stade Louis II in Monaco. This news will be embargoed for TV and news agencies until 20:00h.

Monte Carlo will also play host tomorrow to "Una Noche Sevillana" (A Sevillian Night) at the Princesse Grace Theatre. The show, presented by Melba Ruffo di Calabria, will star the international pop and film star Miguel Bose and the celebrated Flamenco dancer Sara Baras and is designed to promote what will be the greatest international sporting event of 1999 - the IAAF World Championships in Athletics Seville 99. Live TV coverage will be provided by Tele Monte Carlo and Spain’s national channel TVE.
