Former FFA President Michel Marmion dies

MonacoMichel Marmion, who was President of the French Athletics Federation for 12 years (1973-1985) after having been President of the Athletics League of Paris and an excellent announcer during French competitions died recently.

His funeral was held at the Saint Antoine de Padoue Church in Paris on Friday 10 February.

The IAAF was represented by Jean Poczobut (our Treasurer), Pierre Dasriaux (Honorary Member) and General Director Pierre Weiss.

On behalf of the FFA, Michel Arcuset, Vice President,highlighted the humanity and professional and sports qualities of Marmion.

He was not an athlete himself: he discovered our sport when he married his wife Monique (who died in 1992) who was member of the French team in 4x100m in the 50s

Michel was also a member of the IAAF Cross Country Committee for 8 years.

He was 85 years old.
