The French Olympic and World Indoor Champion Jean Galfione broke the French pole vault record with 5.98m at a Meeting in Amiens in the North of France on Friday.
Bettering his own record of 5.97m by one centimetre, set June 17 1998, the Parisian who has been lacking confidence recently, was successful on his second try. He entered the competition at 5.20m, on the advice of his coach Maurice Houvain,
Galfione then twice attempted 6.06m but was not successful. His best performance so far this year had been a 5.80m vault in Athens on June 16.
