10 October 2000 - Addis Abeba - Haile Gebreselassie, the Olympic 10,000m champion, is to have one of the main streets in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Abeba, named after him, the local council announced.
The street, Asmara Road, a long avenue linking the east central districts of Megenagna and Ourael, will be renamed in an official ceremony.
The council have also decided that a public school under construction in the capital will bear the name of the women's Olympic 10,000m champion and record holder Derartu Tulu.
