Ethiopia’s reigning twotime Olympic and former quadruple World 10,000m champion Haile Gebrselassie, will compete at the ninth adidas Boston Indoor Games at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Centre on 31 January 2004. The meeting will once again be the first stop on USA Track & Field’s Indoor Golden Spike Tour.

It will be the first time in eight years that the legendary Ethiopian runner has competed in the United States, and only the third time in his 13-year career, following on from the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, where he won gold, and the 1992 World Cross Country Championships in Boston, where as a 19 year-old he took the silver medal in the junior race.

“We are honoured that the best track athlete in history will be on the starting line for the adidas Boston Indoor Games,” said meet director Mark Wetmore. “We expect sports fans from around the country will be making their travel arrangements for the rare opportunity to watch this superstar perform in person.”

The 30-year-old Gebrselassie who took the 10,000m silver medal at this summer’s World Championships behind countryman Kenenisa Bekele, holds the outdoor World records at both 10,000m (26:22.75) and 5000m (12:39.36), and also for the latter distance indoors (12:50.38).
