The German Athletics Federation (DLV) has announced the team for the IAAF World Championships in Helsinki.

46 athletes were nominated by the DLV, who will additionally send all four relay teams to Finland in August. So all together at present the team will consist of 62 athletes. This would be the smallest team the DLV has ever sent to an IAAF World Championship. But a couple of athletes may join the team after the European Junior and the European U23 Championships.

A number of athletes are already included who have not quite met the qualifying standard by the federation. For the first time the DLV had asked athletes to break the standard twice (except in long distance events from 10,000m onwards and the multiple events).

Danny Ecker and Lars Riedel are prominent names who have been nominated despite having reached the qualifying standard just once this season.

The controversial double breaking of the standard has now been topped off by the federation as officials have asked athletes to also confirm their form in the second half of July. Athletes are expected to at least reach the B Standard.
