Gevaert dashes 11.13 in Odense

 With a stunning performance of 11.13 seconds the reigning European champion, Kim Gevaert of Belgium, was the star of the first day of the European Cup 2nd League held in Odense, Denmark.

The result – a Danish all-comers record – was as well the fastest time by a European this season. And anchoring the Belgian 4x100m Relay team to a winning time of 43.90 Gevaert secured an overall lead of 65 points, ust one point ahead of Lithuania.

Another all comers record saw the light in the women’s Triple Jump, when reigning IAAF World Junior champion Kaire Leibak of Estonia set a season’s best of 13.90m.

Home crowd favourite, olympic bronze medallist Joachim B. Olsen, did his job when winning the men’s shot put comfortably with 20.21m throw. So did another local star, Christina Scherwin, when securing the victory with a season’s best of 59.94 in her first and only throw in the javeline.

Austria’s Clemens Zeller won the men’s 400 metres with a solid performance of 46.17. Another remarkable result was achieved by the 20-year-old Dane, Sara Petersen, who improved the national record in the women’s 400m Hurdles coming in second with 57,04 sec behind Belgium’s Elodie Ouédraogo.
