Elena Lavric of Romania timed her final kick to perfection to claim the Girls 800m gold medal in 2:04.29 here in Ostrava.

Winny Chebet of Kenya crossed the line in second position but was disqualified soon after the race for boxing early leader Chanelle Price coming into the final straight.

Alison Leonard of Great Britain was therefore awarded with silver in 2:05.36 with Cuba’s Juana Ivis Mendez taking bronze in 2:05.42, a new personal best.

Price, the World Youth leader set the early pace as she had previously done in the heats and semi-finals covering the first 200m in 28.33 and leading a compact pack of seven athletes in 58.60 at the bell.

The younger in the race, Lavric was safely positioned in third behind Price and Olha Bibik of Ukraine making sure she was staying out of trouble.

With 100 metres to go it looked as though Price was starting to fade and when Chebet involuntarily unbalanced her as she tried to take the inside it was the end of Price’s challenge for a medal.

Instead, Lavric took the outside and just as dominating as she had been in the previous two rounds, she sped away a clear winner.
