World champion and African record holder Hestrie Cloete knew that she had to jump 1.99 metres at the World Athletics Final today to overtake Carolina Kluft at the top of the Women’s Overall Rankings and become Athlete of the Year.

After clearing the bar at 2.01 metres at her second attempt and applauding herself on the landing mat, she knew she had done it!

Following calculations of her technical result combined with the level of the competition scoring points, Cloete’s overall total is now of 1441 points.

With Kluft, who declined an invitation to compete at the World Athletics Final, maintaining her 1436 overall score and Kelli White statistically needing a 10.77 personal best in tomorrow’s 100 metres to overtake Cloete from the Top of the Rankings, the South African has all the reasons to smile.
