World and Olympic Pole Vault champion Steve Hooker will lead a small but world-class Australian contingent at the 13th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar, 12 – 14 March 2009.

Hooker will be joined in Doha by Mitchell Watt (Long Jump), Fabrice Lapierre (Long Jump), Petrina Price (High Jump), Scott Martin (Shot Put) and Sean Wroe (400m). The selection of Martin and Wroe is subject to the two athletes achieving the necessary entry standard (deadline 1 March).

Hooker, the bronze medallist at the last edition in Valencia in 2008, enters Doha as hot favourite to add the World Indoor gold medal to the titles he has won at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, 2008 Olympic Games, and 2009 World Championships gold.

Mitchell Watt will also head to Doha carrying high hopes for a medal on the back of his Long Jump bronze at the 2009 World Championships.
